"MY MOMMY'S GETTING MARRIED"
How to talk with your children about stepfamily relationships

Scottsdale, Ariz. (January 14, 2008) -- Valentine's Day is just around the corner which means love and marriage. Marriage can be for first time families and second time families which can create questions for moms, dads, and especially children. The children's book, "My Mommy's Getting Married" is a perfect way to begin discussions for children about stepfamily life. With an over 50% divorce rate in this country, there's a 100% chance that your child will be exposed to a stepfamily relationship whether it be through a friend at school or in his/her own family. A child's mother doesn't need to be getting married for a child to enjoy this book. All of our children need to have a tool to begin discussions regarding stepfamily relationships.

Demographers are predicting that by 2010, the stepfamily will be the most prevalent type of family in America. With 9.68 million single mothers and 2.04 million single fathers here in the U.S. who may soon marry, it's time to address the issue of stepfamily life. "Most stepfamilies quickly learn the complications in blending different cultures in family life. It's not that you picked the wrong partner; it's the stepfamily structure that is creating the chaos in your new family," said author Pam Chambers. Researchers say that families who know more about the stepfamily structure do the best. The information in this book is powerful and will help you adjust to your new marriage.

The book "My Mommy's Getting Married," published by Infinity Publishing Co., is now available for children 3 - 7 years of age. Written by Chambers, it is beautifully illustrated by Muriel Stewart. "The biggest problem for children in stepfamily life is their loyalty bind which means that to like or love the stepparent means betraying the biological parent," said Chambers. "My Mommy's Getting Married" strongly addresses the loyalty bind issue for children and can help children be free to enjoy and perhaps love his/her stepparent. "My Mommy's Getting Married" is not only for children, but it also educates parents on stepfamily dynamics.

Author, Pam Chambers, is the mother of five children. A cancer survivor and plane crash survivor, she says that her ability to help children inspired her to move forward in life. Ms. Chambers is a licensed professional counselor with a private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona, and she has worked with children all of her adult life. Working in a variety of settings including outpatient clinics, crisis centers, schools, and as a custody evaluator, parenting coordinator and therapeutic interventionist with the Superior Court of Arizona, Ms. Chambers currently educates people in her popular stepfamily workshops as well as on radio and in print. She graduated with distinction with a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in counseling. She has continued researching and contributing in the ever changing field and for the first time in thirty years, we are addressing this as it should be through the eyes of the children.
